Today’s word is: entrepreneur. Entrepreneur means: someone who identifies an opportunity and take initiative to set up a business or enterprise; someone who organises, manages and assumes the risk associated with a business or an individual who identifies a need in the marketplace and works to fulfill it.             

In this English vocabulary lesson you will learn how to use the word entrepreneur. We are sure that this ESL lesson will help you to enhance your English vocabulary and speak English fluently and confidently.

The word entrepreneur means someone who takes the risk and takes steps to fulfill the demand in the market place.

For example:  The world is witnessing more and more young entrepreneurs who are launching their own startups.

Listen carefully how we can use the word entrepreneur in 8 different situations in 8 different sentences.

Example number 1 of 8: Sujal worked in hotel industry for five years in a large city. He had a dream of becoming an entrepreneur. Hence, he returned to his village and started agriculture theme based tourism.

Example number 2 of 8:  The chairman of a bank was speaking at a college graduation function. While speaking, he talked about the schemes his bank has for young entrepreneurs and mentioned that entrepreneurial skills can be applied even if someone is doing a regular job. He asked the graduates to visit the bank and learn more about the same.

Example number 3 of 8:   Kailash worked as a carpenter. He was very good at making innovative furniture designs. One of his customers recognised his talent and encouraged him to be an entrepreneur.  He gave Kailash some funds to start his own workshop for making unique furniture designs.

Example number 4 of 8:  The government has started technical institutes at major towns for youth from low income groups. They can complete a diploma at these institutes and be an entrepreneur. It helps them to start earning on their own.

Example number 5 of 8:  The Bajaj institute of management has announced a program to offer a degree in entrepreneurship management. In this program, the students will learn about all the skills required to identify needs of products and services and launching of business and risk management techniques.

Example number 6 of 8:  Anaya participated in a debate titled ‘entrepreneur or employee – what is better?’ She spoke passionately about the great entrepreneurs and how they transformed the society. The judges were impressed and she was declared a winner.

Example number 7 of 8:  The parents play a crucial role in shaping the mindset of their children. If they inculcate the qualities of leadership, skill development and risk management in their children, they lay a foundation for the children to be entrepreneurs.

Example number 8 of 8: The women’s club at South Mumbai organised a camp and invited maid servants from the local area. In this camp, they trained the women to stich garments and offered low interest loans to enable them to be entrepreneurs.

Today we learnt the word entrepreneur which means: someone who identifies an opportunity and takes initiative to set up a business or enterprise; someone who organises, manages and assumes the risk associated with a business or an individual who identifies a need in the marketplace and works to fulfill it.
